Being a Frugal Mother on Cape Cod

Living frugal is a must these days on Cape Cod, especially with the way the Country is right now.  With gas prices still high, grocery prices getting higher, business closings and real estate on Cape Cod it can be hard to save your money.  Paying for your rent or mortgage alone and break the bank.  Prices are very high on Cape Cod whether you own or rent and it can be hard to keep up with your payments.  It is especially hard for those moms and dads who have kids to take care of.  Not only do you need to have money for the rent, but the groceries, car, utilities, clothes, school supplies, toys, books and more.

Having a family on the Cape nowadays requires a monthly income greater than usual.  Most business’s close down in the winter leaving locals unemployed and living off of unemployment until the Summer returns.  This is why all of us mom’s out there try to live as frugally as possible.  We want to be able to have fun with our kids and enjoy life while struggling to stay afloat.

There are some great ways to have fun with the kids that cost next to nothing and sometimes nothing at all!  In the dead of Winter here on the Cape there is not much to do outside and not many places are open but you still can have fun at home.

Playing board games is a great way to interact with your kids any time of day.

Listening to music and singing and dancing is a great way to get in a good mood.  ( I do this almost every day with my daughter). Pandora is a FREE Internet radio station, great music.  Also try Comcast Music on Demand.

Tell funny stories and make them up as you go along.  Do this while in the car or in the boring evening hours.

Read BOOKS!  I love to do this with my daughter.  She reads me books too.

Visit your local library.  My local library has a kids area with toys, book and activities. List of Cape Cod libraries

Walk the Cape Cod mall and just window shop.  Let your kids walk and get some energy out.

Rent a movie from the Redbox at your local grocery store.  They cost only $1 per night and are well worth it.  You can also sign up right on their website and get a FREE code sent to your mobile phone once a week for 1 FREE movie.  You could essentially rent 1 movie per week for FREE if you do this.  Visit their website here and sign up today www.redbox.com.

Go to the playground.  On a warm day of course! :)

Just have fun with your kids.  As I have been told by my mother and many other ” They won’t stay this little forever!”.
