Having a Frugal Christmas
With Christmas just around the corner you are probably wondering what to buy for all of your friends and family. Buying for people at Christmas is not the easiest of tasks and that is why I have decided to keep my Christmas simple this year. I plan on buying everyone I know a gift card. I feel that this way people can buy what they want and or need instead of me deciding for them. I know that my favorite gift from people is when I get a gift card or money. I know that I can buy just what I want and I won’t end up with some knick knack that I have to stick up on a shelf and dust every now and again.
Be careful of which gift cards you buy for your friends and family. There are so many places where you can buy a gift card and some have restrictions while others do not. I would NOT recommend the Simon Mall gift card to anyone. I have been given these gift cards before and not only do they charge you monthly after the first year, they also will not let you use your card for a item that costs more than is what is left on your gift card. So, for example, if you want to buy a $20 pair of shoes and you have only $17 left on your Simon mall gift card, you cannot use your gift card towards your shoes. You cannot just pay te difference in cash. It is a pain in the butt. Another gift card that works the same way is a Banknorth gift card and a Wells Fargo gift card. Any Visa, American Express and any other Bank card will have hidden fee’s and should be avoided.
Most store gift cards such as Old Navy, Gap, Sears, Walmart, Home Depot and more have gift cards with no hidden fee’s and you can use them on all products in the store no matter the price.
Another great alternative to a gift card is cash. This can be spent anywhere and will not get lost and will definitely put a smile on any one’s face. Get fancy and make a small gift card holder or cash money holder that looks pretty for the holidays.
